Making the decision to start counselling is a time of vulnerability; you will be talking about sensitive issues that you may have never discussed with anyone before. Finding the right therapist for you is very important. For this reason I offer all prospective clients an Assessment Session. This gives both of us the opportunity to see if we would like to work together.
The trust between client and therapist is crucial and I treat all information disclosed as confidential. However, in my opinion if a client is either a danger to himself, herself or to others I do reserve the right to inform appropriate agencies after discussion with the client. Confidentiality is offered within accepted legal boundaries i.e. news of abuse of children, when not revealing information would be breaking the law e.g. serious criminal offence, terrorism etc.
At this session I take a detailed history from you, understand with you what you would like to achieve, it will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and I will explain in more detail what I am able to offer.
Assessment sessions usually last for up to 1 hour.
A counselling session usually lasts for 50 minutes, and is at the same time and day weekly, although this may be negotiable and I can be flexible.
I offer short term face to face counselling (up to six sessions)
I offer long-term face to face counselling (six sessions or more)
I offer open ended sessions (you may not have any idea how long you need for counselling but this can be for as long as you would like to come – short-term or long term)
I offer telephone counselling (sessions over the telephone)
